A mixed media picture done for the charity project, About a Dog. The project aims to raise money for the Lucky Lucy animal anti-cruelty organisation. Several artists are contributing images to an e-book which will be for sale soon, with the profits going to Lucky Lucy. I’ll post more info (regarding orders and so on) as it becomes available.
About the image:
This is a picture of my mother’s dog, Geitjie (Gecko). Geitjie is a little dachshund/jack russel pavie and she is a real little trooper, having survived several near-death experiences, including algae poisoning and a fight with a boerboel. She is the light in my mother’s life and a faithful companion. When my mother was going through dark times and a failed marriage, Geitjie and Rafel, her other dachshund, were there to provide unfailing affection and some very essential shreds of hope. Today both mom and dogs are well and happy, living in their home in Observatory, Cape Town. What would our lives be without our little (or big!) animal friends?
Aaah If it helps, I cried making it. T_T She is such a little brat, having a great time of life. But she gives me mom so much joy. Thank you, I'm very glad you like the work! I might do a couple of prints of this for rAge when/if I go up again. I did a single canvas print of it last time and a young girl spent aaaaaaaages looking at it and thinking it over and she came back on the Saturday to buy it. I was so happy that it was going to a home that would really appreciate it.
Great to hear Geitjie is happy and healthy, despite her dangerous encounters. She's adorable!!
